Tree burial offers a peaceful and natural alternative to traditional forms of burial. Many people find comfort and strength in nature, and a resting place under a tree symbolizes the eternal cycle of life and nature. In cemetery forests or rest forests, the ashes of the deceased are buried in urns made of biodegradable material in specially designated forest areas, where the trees serve as living monuments. A small plaque on the tree commemorates the deceased person.
Tranquil forests and cemetery forests offer relatives a space in which they can commemorate traditional cemeteries free of rigid forms. Instead of tombstones, the trees and nature itself remind us of the lives of the deceased.

When burial a tree is carried out, a suitable tree is first selected. On the day of the funeral, the mourning community meets at the appropriate resting place, where the urn is carefully placed in the ground. On request, relatives can arrange a small ceremony. Many opt for natural decoration, without artificial elements, in order to preserve the harmony of the forest.
Afterwards, it is possible to visit the square without a tombstone or fixed frame, but with a small plaque on the tree that commemorates the deceased person.

Our team will help you with every step of a tree burial — from picking up the deceased person to choosing the tree to organising the farewell party. We are also happy to coordinate with FriedWald, Ruheforst or Cemetery as well as all formalities. Let us create a dignified farewell in nature together.

How can I make a burial in the funeral forest mandatory during my lifetime?
In order to secure tree burial in FriedWald or RuheForst during your lifetime, you can conclude a funeral contract. In doing so, you select your desired tree or location and acquire the appropriate right of use. This is confirmed by a document, which serves as grave evidence. An early decision relieves the burden on your relatives and ensures that your wishes are respected.
What are the requirements for a forest burial?
Prior cremation is required for tree burial, as only urn burials are allowed. The urn must be biodegradable so as not to disturb the natural cycle. It is also important that the burial complies with the respective regulations of the chosen funeral forest. As a rule, tombstones, artificial grave decorations and candles are not permitted in order to preserve the naturalness of the forest.
FriedWald or cemetery — What are the differences?
One major difference between FriedWald and traditional cemeteries lies in the design and maintenance of the burial sites. In FriedWald, burial takes place at the roots of a tree, without a tombstone or individual planting. Nature takes care of it so that there is no effort for relatives. In cemeteries, on the other hand, individual grave designs are common, which require regular maintenance. In addition, only biodegradable urns are allowed in FriedWald, while both earth and urn burials are possible in cemeteries.
Which flowers are suitable for a forest burial?
When burial in a forest, it is important to respect the natural environment. Therefore, only flowers that are found in the forest or are native to the forest should be used. Bouquets of wildflowers or individual flowers can be laid down during the ceremony. Non-biodegradable floral arrangements, wreaths or flower arrangements should be avoided so as not to disturb the ecological cycle and protect wildlife.
